Pre Project Understanding -before you go to project.

Points for BA
Say you get into Project claiming you have these skills
Project manager will ask you to do BRD so you need to know..

1. Who will go and talk to 
2. What you will go and talk about 

So you need to know (Prerequisites)

1. What is company all about 
2. What is product all about
3. What is market share value

IF you understand these, it will be easier to go and talk to people so people whom you and talk to, or need there help, knowing project and product helps to communicate, and helps to bridge first connection..
So you have to ask Manager,

1. what are prerequisites of project
1. Gives more information about project
2. If it in past, it did not go through
3. or they calling it back for any reason
2. why project started
1. You will get into project before project started or after project started

say 

they changing website to new..or lets say PM says, they already have a website (say in java) and now they wanted to maintain sophisticated new CMS in existing URL so you as started from beginning  you will have more time/exposure to understand requirement. You can build your own prototype and give it to users.

Let say they already have 6 modules and now this one is 7th..and they are doing this after some time, so you can use past prerequisites  or knowledge to predict future, tweaking new requirement or adding some technical specifications and you can build your own business case.Say client ask module built on java platform, with team and budget specification. 

1. So you will talk to people..
2. You will include all these details in business case and send to sponsor 
3. Decision will be based on prototype you built
4. Think as you are senior most BA.. You will be more confident when you face team
5. Once you built Business case, and everything finalized and presented to sponsor (representative of so and so business but for us, he is a sponsor)

These are project Activities.. 

So we covered what is project activities on project ..

• Gathering requirement, 
• making UI (just for user interest)
• doing UAT till we go live (deploying the project
• and prerequisities

we will go to each and every module and answer there questions

so we will do users hand on training

After project

Post Project Activities

When ever user sends a ticket

• Maintenance
• You will allocate this ticket to respective person
• You are point of contact
• Support
• User training
• Needs lot of knowledge
• You will be involved directly indirectly even if project done

In interview

• Ask what stage project is

Project success depends on

1. Time (expected time for completion for the sponsor)
1. Say we tell sponsor that we will get project done in so and so time with this much of money
2. If all done, then its a successful project
2. Money 
3. Scope

All three goes hand in hand. If we have no money, then we can't get this done in time. These are key factors for successful project and make a lot of difference..

but there could be a problem in successful completion, due to any problem.. so we do
